Pip McGarry

Born in Singapore in 1955, Pip describes himself as a self taught artist but attributes his natural talent to his artistic family background. He started out in the Civil Service, but after a lengthy career he finally decided to turn his great hobby of wildlife painting into a profession.

Working mainly in oils, Pip’s originals have been outstandingly popular and his success has enabled him to raise thousands of pounds for various conservation concerns including the Epulu Okapi Game Reserve Appeal in Zaire, Save the Tiger and the Dambari Field Research Station for Black Rhinos in Zimbabwe. He has travelled extensively overseas and has lived in Central America and the Far East. He conducts regular field research trips abroad in order to study wildlife and habitat, and has camped in remote areas of Tanzania and Northern Botswana.

Since turning professional, Pip has been the subject of several broadcasts by Meridian Television and has also been featured in national newspapers and magazines. His paintings have been auctioned at each of the international Wildlife Art auctions held by Christies and Sotheby’s, with keen bidding often pushing prices well over their pre-sale estimates.

Pip has demonstrated, lectured and taught painting techniques for the last few years. He is founder and chairman of Marwell Art Society, the second largest group of its kind in the UK, a council member of Marwell Zoological Society, and the first ever Artist-in-Residence at Marwell Zoo.

Wildlife painting is my passion but the fact that I am able to give something back to the subjects I paint is the most important element for me."
