Sergey Cherep
Born in St Petersburg, Russia, in 1969, Sergey’s immense artistic talent was recognised and encouraged from an early age. By the time he was eight years old he was attending art school, and already knew that painting was to be his life’s vocation. From school, Sergey moved on to attend one of the most prestigious art schools in Europe, the ‘Serovo Art Institute’, and here he studied a whole range of subjects including art history, photography, printing, sculpture and restoration. He was encouraged to paint everything from still lives to portraits, but it was at landscapes that he excelled. Sergey’s dramatic oils reflect his abiding passion for French Impressionism and his continuing love affair with colour, texture and light. His imagination is fuelled by a lifetime of wanderlust which is skillfully captured in each piece. His lively contemporary landscapes possess an energy that takes the viewer into another dimension; a quality that keeps one captivated for a lifetime. Sergey’s work has been exhibited in numerous prestigious European galleries as well as in St Petersburg and Moscow. In addition he has held several successful exhibitions at galleries throughout the United States. In December 2000 he was recognised by the Academia Internazionale, Greco-Marino, Academia del Verbano, Di Lettere, Arti, Scienze in Italy, who appointed him as associate professor to the Department of Arts. This appointment was based on Sergey’s artistic achievements as reported in the Dizionario Enciclopedico d’Arte Contemporanea.
